The Urban Cowboy Experience
If you've spent time in Smithville, then you know Jamboree is a BIG deal around here during spring time. The annual festival brings in tens of thousands of people every year, and 2022 was no exception. Well, this year's Jamboree turned out to be especially memorable for Rocking M Ranch. We were able to become sponsors for Jamboree for the first time! Let me tell you, it was surreal seeing our logo up on the banners and being mentioned by the emcee up on stage! Very exciting stuff. But there was one more thing that happened that really topped our sundae - Rocking M Ranch Weddings, Events, and Lodging was able to host Mickey Gilley, Johnny Lee, and the entire Urban Cowboy Tour crew at our venue! MICKEY GILLEY AND JOHNNY LEE!!! We were starstruck to say the least. Having them come out to the venue, seeing them perform at Jamboree, and getting to take photos and chat with them backstage afterward were some of those moments you know you'll never forget.
We were beyond saddened to learn later that that was going to be one of Mickey Gilley's last performances. The legend passed away May 7, 2022, just two weeks after lighting up the stage and the lives of small town folk in Smithville, TX. Rest in Peace, friend.
Walk This Way
A much needed addition to the venue, our new walkway enhances the outdoor venue space, extending from the back door of the lodge to the altar and ceremony area. This rustic but elegant path leads brides into the ceremony space for all to see and makes their grand entrance much more memorable. Made of crushed granite, the walkway is lined with cedar logs and allows for a more segmented venue space to separate formal dining tables from the more casual area dedicated to music, dancing, our pool and the fire pit area.
